Left parties held a dharna in front of mini secretariat at Fatehabad on Friday against the state and centre governments led by the BJP for allegedly backing out from promises made before the elections.
The protesters, including women, were addressed by leaders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), CPI and Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist), who blamed the BJP of “deceiving” the people by taking recourse to same “disastrous” policies of the UPA government and taking even “more regressive path” in many areas.
CPM state secretary Inderjit Singh criticised the weakening of the MNREGA by slashing down the fund allocation of states and expressed surprise over Haryana chief minister keeping silence over the issue.
He recalled that Modi had promised bringing back all stashed black money but now trying to hush-up the matter. He stated that crop prices crashed drastically, labour laws were being diluted in favour of capitalists, FDI was sought to be allowed in several sectors of our economy, the Land Acquisition Act was being again liberalised and parliamentary process was being diluted.
He alleged that communal poison was being systematically spread by whipping up religious feelings in order to divert the attention of the people. He said school syllabus was being amended to bring in myths replacing scientific facts.
Other speakers included former MLA Harpal Singh, Ram Kumar of CPM, Vijay Kumar of SUCI and CPI activists. They also raised the issue of fertiliser shortage, stray cattle, spread of Hepatitis C, illegal sale of liquor and drugs etc.
