With onset of winter in the hill state, predatory cats are giving sleepless nights to the residents of villages nearby the state capital town.

Recently, a leopard was reportedly on prowl in Pagog, Badash, Malyana and Chamyana villages. Several villagers have seen leopard in the past one week in these areas. With the decrease in temperature, leopards are compelled to leave the forests in search of food.
However, forest officials have received no reports about the leopard. Shimla divisional forest officer (DFO) Vinod Kumar Sharma said he has received no reports of leopard roaming in the town.
A forest official said the department has put cages at several places, including near St Bedes College in Shimla as a routine. "Presence of leopard cannot be predicted," he added.
Pagog Panchayat president Krishan Chand said several people have seen the leopard on the link road connecting Pagog and Shimla town.
"People are scared to walk on that road," he added.
Villagers have been demanding to put cages on road and surrounding areas, including Sanahan, Mini-Kuftadhar and Badash.
In April, leopard killed over a dozen of goats in Krishnanagar,thickly populated residential area.
