Some henchmen of liquor contractors allegedly assaulted a dhaba owner in Baidesa village on Sunday night on the suspicion that he was indulging in liquor business and cutting their trade.

The complaint Kulwant Singh (55) and his family have been admitted to the Mansa civil hospital.
Station house officer (SHO) inspector Dalbir Singh said that a first-information report has been filed under Sections 323,148,149,365 and 452 of the IPC.

"Two contractors Bunty and Happy Singh came to my house three times on Sunday. They had cops with them and searched my house, accusing me of selling liquor in my dhaba. When nothing was found, the two came with their henchmen and assaulted me and family," the complaint goes on to add.

The dhaba owner also claimed that these liquor contractors conduct random checks on the vehicles and residences of the locals to see whether they are selling liquor.

When questioned on the rising incidents of crime involving liquor contractors, SSP Bhupinder Singh Khattara said: "These contractors enjoy close proximity with the officials of excise department and so are able to harass locals." He also confirmed that the liquor contractors named by the dhaba owner had been habitual offenders.
