The Punjab and Haryana high court has asked the Punjab government to list out steps taken to being back the belongings, such as pistol, and diary, of martyr Udham Singh from the UK.
The high court bench of justice SS Saron ad justice Hari Pal Verma sought status report from Punjab on initiatives taken by it with the Centre, on retrieving the belongings of the martyr from Metropolitan Police, London.
The high court was hearing a public interest litigation filed pursuant to a demand notice submitted by two petitioners for retrieving the martyr’s belongings.
The petitioner’s lawyer, HC Arora, also produced judgment in a case filed by the Singh Legal Foundation seeking directions to Union of India to take up the matter with the France government for lifting a ban against Sikh students to enter schools while wearing turban. The issue was taken up by the Centre on direction issued by the high court in 2007, the court was told.
