Ludhiana Improvement Trust has been unable to recover Rs 9.54 crore as enhancement charge of plots in three schemes of the trust for the past six months.

The LIT on December 12, 2012, had published advertisements in different newspapers asking those who were allotted plots in these three schemes to deposit enhancement in the price of land within 30 days.

However, the trust’s reply to an RTI application has revealed that no money has been deposited by the allottees, and the LIT had also not taken any action against the defaulters.

The application, which was filed by Arvind Sharma and Rohit Sabharwal, secretary and president of Council of RTI Activists, also brought to light that Rs 9.53 crore were supposed to be deposited by the defaulters to the LIT from SBS Nagar, Kitchlu Nagar and Maharishi Valmiki Nagar.

The rate of land at the three schemes was enhanced at Rs 91 per square yard; Rs 199 per square yard and Rs 235 per square yard respectively.

As per the norms, LIT was supposed to cancel the allotment of the plot in case the defaulters did not deposit the amount within one month. But surprisingly no action has been taken so far taken against those who did not deposit the enhanced price.

Sharma said despite spending thousands on advertisements, no action was taken against defaulters, which raises eyebrows.

“I had asked in the RTI application regarding the action taken against the defaulters and also the number of plots cancelled by the LIT. But it was stated by the LIT that no action has been taken against anyone,” Sharma said.

The RTI application also asked for names of officials who did not take action against defaulters. But the trust officials did not provide information on this.
