The local bodies department, on Monday, handed over appointment letters to 249 fresh recruits in the department for various ranks.
Local bodies minister Anil Kumar Joshi said among the candidates who were given the job letter, there were 17 sub-divisional officers, 123 junior engineers, 36 sanitary inspectors, 33 accountants and 36 draftsmen and head draftsmen.
He said that with the recruitment, the working of the department would be streamlined and service delivery system would become efficient.
The minister added that the appointment letters to four law officers and 15 chief sanitary officers would be handed over in due course as their case was sub judice.
"All these appointments have been made purely on the basis of merit after a written test conducted by recruitment committees of the departments," added Joshi, issuing instructions to senior officers to expeditiously deal with promotion-related cases of employees.
The minister also asked officers to consider employment on compassionate grounds to family of deceased employees.
