Microplasty, a new technique for knee replacement, is now available in Jalandhar at Orthonova Hospital, said hospital Dr Harprit on Friday.
He claimed, "This technique is available at our hospital. We have performed five knee replacements using the method."
He added that unlike the present surgery method, which requires an incision of 5-6 inches, microplasty could be done using a 2-3 inch incision. He claimed that the technique had 99% success rate.
"The technique leads to less bleeding and pain, compared to the present prevalent surgical procedures now. The implant lasts for at least 20 years, double the life. The recovery time is shorter. After this surgery, the patient is discharged after two-three days. The treatment, though, is expensive."
Dr Harprit has obtained special training in microplasty surgery from Hemburg, Germany and performed 40 joint replacements there.
A patient Raghuvir Singh from Jalandhar said that he found the treatment very effective and better.
