The Punjab government has entrusted the Lovely Professional University (LPU) to offer 60 seats in free hospitality sector training courses for the unemployed youth. The courses will start on September 1.
Ashok Mittal, LPU chancellor, in a press release issued here today, said that the unemployed youth seeking a job in the hospitality sector could look forward to bright days ahead.
He said that food production (eight weeks) and housekeeping utility (six weeks) courses with an initial intake of 30 students each were introduced as per the union ministry of tourism scheme – ‘Hunar Se Rozgar Tak’. The seats were being filled on first come first serve basis, he quipped, adding that no application or course fee would be charged from the applicants.
“The applicant should be between 18 to 28 years of age and should have passed class 8. Candidates require filling application form available at LPU hospitality department on the campus. The applicants can also approach counsellors at helpline numbers 01824-444256 and 9888816604,” Mittal said, adding that trained applicants would get placed as well.
The scheme was aimed at increasing skilled manpower in hospitality sector. “In addition to tool kit and uniform, a stipend of Rs 2000 for food production (cook) and Rs 1500 for housekeeping utility would be given to the students. A skill test will be conducted at the end of the respective courses and the passouts will be awarded certificates. To be eligible for certificate and stipend, the trainee must have 95% attendance during the courses,” he said, adding that the university would shoulder this corporate sector responsibility entrusted to them by the state government.
