Ahsif Khan, a B.Pharma student of Lovely Professional University (LPU), has been awarded Dada Saheb Phalke-2014 Award in short film category for students in New Delhi at the Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival held recently.
Ahsif, who hails from West Bengal, has got this award for his 15-minute short film 'The Poster' in special festival mention award category for students. He received the 'Certificate of Excellence' from national award-winning producer Savita Raj Hirmath.
Ahsif's work competed with entries from across India and 45 other countries.
"My film 'The Poster' is a moving depiction of the everyday travails of the common man, the vulnerability of his dreams, frustration at workplace and home and finally his making an attempt at social reform. My film is based on the story of Zahir Raihan— a revolutionary figure in Bangladesh," said Ahsif.
The film is in Bengali with subtitles in English.
"The protagonist of the film is a middle-class man, Amzad, who believes that the government is doing everything for its people. But then, he learns about the drawbacks of the system after he loses his job. A salaried government employee, he lives his life with resigned acceptance. The film depicts his final disillusionment as he gets fired from his job for no reason."
Ahsif had also made a documentary 'Song of Padma' in 2013 which bagged the "best documentary" title at the LPU film festival. The documentary was also appreciated at the 6th International Film Festival in Dhaka (Bangladesh).
LPU chancellor Ashok Mittal congratulated Ahsif for his feat. "We always inspire the students who have zeal to do something innovative, creative and research-oriented," he said.
