The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has decided to field the owner and editor of Punjabi Kesri, Delhi, Ashwini Minna from Karnal Lok Sabha seat, BJP's Haryana affairs in-charge Jagdish Mukhi told Hindustan Times.
The 57-year-old Minna is considered close to several national BJP leaders.
When the HJC staked its claim on the Karnal segment, the protesting BJP leaders said that the party must field a local candidate from here which is considered a Brahmin seat.
As on Thursday, the HJC withdrew its claim and the BJP decided to field Minna.
Welcoming the decision, the district president Ashok Sukhija said that Minna’s presence would strengthen the support from the Punjabi community.
Sukhija was among those who had given in writing to the BJP leadership to take back the seat from the ally.
