Ludhiana assistant commissioner robbed in Nawanshahr

A newly-recruited PCS officer and Ludhiana’s assistant commissioner (grievances) Surjeet Singh Saini (51) was robbed by three bike-borne miscreants when late Sunday night. Saini was from Chandigarh to Jalandhar. The incident while the PCS officer was driving and was near Mehli village, situated on the SBS Nagar- Phagwara border.

Robbers attacked him with sharp-edged weapons. Saini has sustained injuries on his ankle.

Saini’s bag - containing his ATM cards, driving license, mobile phone, clothes, books, Rs 4500 and other valuables - was robbed.

Saini told HT that he had stepped out of the car for urinating when the miscreants appeared on a bike and put sharp-edged weapons on him.

“I have also sustained injuries on the ankle but I joined Ludhiana as AC (G) on Monday,” said Saini, adding that a passerby informed the police about the incident.

Saini was formerly working as the superintendent of deputy commissioner in Jalandhar.

SSP Naveen Singla said a FIR had been registered at the Behram police station.
