In an untoward incident, principal of a Ludhiana-based college allegedly threw her walking stick at a Panjab University professor, who was part of a committee, which had visited the college on Monday in lieu of a complaint against the college management.
A committee headed by professor Aruna Goel paid a visit to Guru Nanak Girls College (GNGC), Ludhiana, which is affiliated to PU, after the university received certain complaints against the college management.
According to sources, the committee reached the college in the morning to hold an inquiry into the matter of harassment being reported by 21-faculty members at the hands of the management.
The committee members spoke to different faculty members and at around 3pm on the request of college principal Charanjit Mahal, they proceeded to have lunch, however, when they were about to reach the dining room the principal threw her walking stick towards one committee member, Rajesh Gill, which hit her in her leg.
When Gill turned and confronted, the principal went back to her office and slammed the door and started shouting, according to the complaint submitted.
Later, her husband Surjit Singh also reached the college and as per the complaint of the committee allegedly threatened the committee members.
The committee later in the day gave an incident report to PU vice-chancellor (VC) Arun Kumar Grover and also submitted a complaint in his office, demanding action in the incident.
Aruna Goel confirmed the incident and told HT that a complaint in this regard has been submitted. She, however, refused to divulge further details.
Sources said the college principal was disturbed after the faculty members gave statements against her and the management to the committee.
The committee members informed that it was an outburst and college principal could not control her anguish and as a result threw her walking stick.
The complaint against the college principal is now with the PU V-C and he would decide the further course of action.
Also the committee is contemplating of getting an FIR registered in the case. Meanwhile, college principal could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
Gurdip Singh, president of the GNGC management said, "These are false allegations and the college principal did not hit anybody. The story has been concocted by the committee members
