A Ludhiana-based chartered accountant (CA) was kidnapped in New Delhi on Tuesday for ransom.
Miscreants demanded Rs 4 lakh from the family for releasing Arun Wahi, 48. The kidnappers gave the numbers of two bank accounts and asked the family to deposit the money there.
The family sounded the Ludhiana police, which started investigation and traced the location of the mobile phone of the CA to Mandakini Enclave in Delhi. The kidnappers used the CA's phone to contact the family. Instead of talking to the family themselves, the kidnappers made the CA talk to the family and demand ransom.
Wahi of New Shivpuri area here went to Delhi on Tuesday for business purposes. His wife Sonia told the police that she called him up around 12.45 pm and he told her that he had hired a taxi.
After sometime, she got a call from Wahi, who sounded afraid and told her to arrange Rs 4 lakh. He told her that he had been kidnapped and the kidnappers were demanding the money to release him. She said that then she got SMSes mentioning two bank account numbers from her husband's phone and was told to deposit the money there.
The preliminary investigation showed that the bank accounts were of ICICI Bank, in the name of RK Enterprises and Abid Enterprises.
The police suspect that he was kidnapped following a conspiracy. It was possible that the accused were chasing him from Ludhiana.
Salem Tabri SHO Balwinder Singh said as the CA was kidnapped in Delhi, they had sounded the Delhi police, which had started investigations.
