Ludhiana: Car falls into Sidhwan Canal, one feared drowned

A man was feared drowned as a car with two occupants fell into the Sidhwan Canal near Asaram Ashram in Sahnewal on Saturday evening. One of the occupants, however, was rescued by the locals.

The police have initiated the rescue operation to find the missing person.

Two friends, Daljit Singh (32) and Gama (26), were on their way to Doraha from Ludhiana in a Lancer car. As the car was crossing near of Asaram Ashram at Southern Bypass, it went out of control and fell into the canal. The onlookers raised alarm and rescued Gama by throwing a rope, while Daljit was washed away with the flow of water.

The Dehlon police reached the spot and started the rescue operation with the help of locals. The police were trying to trace Daljit till the filing of this report.

An eye witness said as the car fell into the canal people rushed to help the occupants of the car. “They threw a rope in the canal and rescued Gama. Daljit also held one end of the rope, but the flow of the water was so fast that he was washed away with the flow,” he added.

Dehlon police station SHO Inderjeet Singh said the police have initiated search operation with the help of divers.
