The family of a man, who died under mysterious circumstances at his house in Basant Nagar here on Tuesday, accused his paramour of poisoning him to death.

The police sent the body to civil hospital for postmortem. Its viscera have been sent by the doctors to forensic science lab for chemical examination. The police have filed the proceedings under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

The deceased has been identified as Roshan Lal, a 35-year-old laborer of Basant Nagar.

Inspector Jatinder Kumar, station house officer (SHO) at police station Daba, said, "Roshan Lal was living alone in a rented accommodation in the area. The landlord broke open the door on Tuesday when Lal did not respond to his repeated knocks. He was shocked to see Lal lying dead on his bed and immediately informed the police. The police found no injury marks on his body."

"Lal was married but did not live with his family. He had illicit relations with Asha Rani, a divorcee from Daba and had started to live with her. They also have a daughter but were living separately from last few months," the SHO added.

Lal's father Nasib Chand alleged that Asha Rani had poisoned Lal to death. According to the SHO, the police have been investigating the matter and will take appropriate action according to the findings.
