Ludhiana: Eight posts of principals lying vacant in govt schools

While posts of principals are lying vacant in eight government senior secondary schools of the district, four senior lecturers and one principal at government inservice training centre, Ludhiana, have been sitting without any work, as after their appointment in the centre last year, not a single training has been conducted till now.

Neither any training has been provided to these lecturers and principal since September last year and nor have they conducted any training for school teachers. However, as per rules these lecturers can be deputed in government schools as principal.

A senior lecturer requesting, anonymity, said, "We have been deputed at the government inservice training centre from September last year. We have to sit here 9am to 5pm, but there is no work. It is very difficult to sit idle for a whole day. Even, we haven't received any orders on training teachers of government schools. Posts of principals are lying vacant in government schools and instead of giving the officiating charge to any other principal who is already handling one school, the senior lecturers can be deputed on deputation on the posts of principals. For how many months, we will sit free at inservice centre."

The post of principal at Government Senior Secondary School, Kila Raipur (vacant for the past one year); Government Senior Secondary School, Mallah girls, Jagraon (vacant since August last year); Government Senior Secondary School, Barsal, Jagraon; Government Senior Secondary School, Lamma Jatpura; Government Senior Secondary School, Kadian and Government Senior Secondary School, Chakohi for the past six months, However, the post of principal at Government Senior Secondary School, Lehal, is lying vacant from last two weeks after principal Varinder Kaur retired on April 30.

Anoop Kumar Passi, principal of GMSSS-Cemetery Road, who was handling the officiating charge of Senior Secondary Residential School for Meritorious since August 2014, was shifted to government inservice training centre two weeks ago. But, nobody was deputed at GMSSS-Cemetery Road.

When contacted, Punjab education minister Daljit Singh Cheema said, "We will start conducting seminars for master cadre teachers in June and lecturers at inservice training centres will train them. We will fill the posts of principals soon in government schools."
