The third and last accused in the Women’s Day gangrape of a five-star-hotel employee here was arrested on Wednesday.

Monu “Mohan” (20) was caught near Pahalwan Dhaba on the Dhandra road in a well-coordinated operation of a special team that director general of police Sumedh Saini and additional director general of police (intelligence) Hardeep Singh Dhillon had formed.

Early on March 8, three men had raped the hotel employee in a moving car. Accused Badal (21) of Bhagat Singh Nagar, Dhandra Road; and Sunny of the same locality; are under arrest already. Public outrage since the incident forced DGP Saini to camp in the city for two days.

Accused Monu belongs to Manakwal village. “The DGP and the ADGP (intelligence), who came to Ludhiana on March 9 and met the victim’s family, supervised the operation to catch the accused and discussed how to counsel and rehabilitate the victim. As a follow-up, inspector general of police (IGP) Gurpreet Deo met the victim,” reads an official statement from commissioner of police Pramod Ban.

Accused Badal and Sunny, caught on Monday and Tuesday, respectively, are in the judicial custody. Sources said assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Richa Agnihotri had taken the victim to the crime investigation agency (CIA) office to identify the accused. The police have deployed 200 more men from their armed battalion and another 20 patrolling motorcycles on the Ludhiana roads.

Minor’s gangrape: all accused caught

All men accused of gangraping a minor on Holi in a vacant house near Dairy Complex are also under arrest. Accused Bobby was under arrest already and five more men (Yogesh Kumar, Kuldip Singh, Ravi, Charanjit Singh and Rahul Kumar) were caught on Wednesday.
