The police have arrested an ice-cream seller for attempting to rape a five-yearold girl at Kutbewal village in Ladhowal on Friday evening.

The accused has been identified as Sham Sundar of Dhuri Lines.

The girl’s father, in his complaint to the police, stated that his daughter had gone to the vendor to buy ice-cream but did not return.

Upon searching for her, they found that the ice-cream seller had taken her half a kilometre away from the street and was trying to rape her, he stated.

They nabbed the accused and informed the Ladhowal police. Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Chaman Singh, who is investigating the matter, said the accused was arrested from the spot.

A case under Sections 376 (rape) and 511 (attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused.
