The police have become exceedingly cautious in the investigation of the much-discussed killings of brothers Jatinder Singh and Harinder Singh at Ahluwali Colony of Jamalpur area. To cross check the statements of accused SAD leader Gurjit Singh, constable Yadwinder Singh and Home Guard jawans Baldev Singh and Ajit Singh, the police will conduct a polygraph test.

After getting the court's permission, the police will take the accused to the AP Forensic Science Labs, Hyderabad, for the test. But, officials are tightlipped about it. Currently, the accused have been lodged in the Ludhiana Central Jail.

The deadline for the investigation is October 29 and the joint action committee set up to pursue the case has been demanding that the investigation report be publicised.

During investigation, the Special Investigation Team confiscated the daily register from Machhiwara police station, in which the dismissed station house officer (SHO) inspector Manjinder Singh had forged an entry.

On September 27, the accused had gunned down the brothers. They were arrested on the same day and the cops, including the SHO, were dismissed with immediate effect. The state had also suspended Khanna senior superintendent of police Harsh Bansal after the incident.
