A labourer allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself on Tuesday at his rented accommodation in Purani Sabji Mandi area of Salem Tabri, Ludhiana.

The deceased has been identified as Tarsem Lal (25), a resident of RS Pura in Jammu and Kashmir. Lal had come to Ludhiana around three days ago and was working as a labourer in the Sabji Mandi.

On Tuesday, when no one opened the door of Lal's room after constant knocking, the owner of the house, Ramanjit Singh, informed the police, who reached the spot and found him dead.

The police have sent the body to a civil hospital for postmortem and the reason behind the suicide is yet to be ascertained. Meanwhile, a case has been registered under Section 174 of CrPC.
