Ludhiana: Man held with firearms at railway station

Railway police arrested a person for possessing firearms on Sunday. Later, on the basis of his statements, his accomplice in Amritsar was also nabbed.

Railway police arrested a person for possessing firearms on Sunday. Later, on the basis of his statements, his accomplice in Amritsar was also nabbed. A country made pistol, a revolver and two bullets were recovered which they had purchased to eliminate their rival gangster Jaggu of Amritsar. A case under Arms Act has been registered, the police said.

The accused have been identified as Navtej Singh of Sham Nagar, Majitha, Amritsar, and Amarjit Singh alias Sona of Kotla Majha Singh, Majitha.

Sub-divisional inspector, railway police, Murlidhar said the station house officer (SHO), Inderjit Singh, along with a police party were conducting a checking drive at the city railway station when they arrested Navtej Singh of Amritsar and seized a pistol, a revolver and two bullets from his possession.

During interrogation, Navtej told police that Amarjit Singh alias Sona of Amritsar had sent him to Uttar Pradesh to purchase illegal weapons. After that, the police arrested Amarjit Singh from Kotla Majha Singh, Majitha, Amritsar.

The accused said that that they purchased the weapons to eliminate their rival gangster Jaggu of Amritsar.

They had also planned to execute loots using the weapons, the police said. The accused had purchased the weapons from a person named Rahul of Najibabad, Uttar Pradesh, who will also be nabbed soon, said the police.
