A man has been booked for strangulating and bludgeoning his wife to death with a blunt weapon in an inebriated condition at Upplan village on Saturday.
The Koom Kalan police have registered a murder case against the accused, who is at large.
The accused has been identified as 50-year-old Harmel Singh. He was married to Sukhwinder Kaur, alias Asha (48).
The couple had no child from their 25-year marriage. Both of them worked in a factory.
The case has been registered following the statement of Sarabjit Kaur, sister of the deceased, a resident of Jandiyali village.
In her statement, Sarabjit alleged that the accused used to thrash her sister in an inebriated condition.
She came to know from the villagers that on Saturday, the accused, who was drunk, had bludgeoned his wife to death.
Following which, reached Upplan village and was shocked to see body of her sister lying in a pool of blood, while Harmel was not there. She had immediately informed the police.
Inspector Vinod Kumar, the SHO at the Koom Kalan police station, said the police had registered a murder case against the accused and launched a manhunt for his arrest.
He said the blunt weapon used in the crime had not been recovered yet. The probe was on in the case, said the SHO at the Koom Kalan police station.
