Ludhiana man to lead fisheries federation

City’s Kanwaljit Singh has become the first Punjabi director of the National Federation of Fishers Co-operatives Limited (Fishcopfed). The elections to this national federation of fisheries co-operatives were held on Friday (January 8) in New Delhi. Reacting to the honour, Kanwaljit Singh said: “After 45 years of South Indian domination, it is the first time when this federation of 31 lakh members has elected a Punjabi as its director.”

Fishcopfed works under the Union Ministry of Agriculture to promote fishery and guide and assist fishers. “I will focus on the needs and demands of fish farmers. We demand a national fisher co-operation Act,” said Kanwaljit Singh.
