Chandigarh’s meteorological centre has predicted rainfall between January 7 and 9 and heavy fog during morning and evening hours in various parts of Punjab including Ludhiana.

While rain would cause a dip in temperature in the coming days, the foggy weather will cause inconvenience to the commuters in driving.

In winter, heavy fog enevlops the city during morning and evening hours due to which many accidents occur. Delay in trains due to fog is another major problem that the residents would suffer.

Flooding of city roads due to rains is caused every year in absence of any rain water sewer system in Ludhiana due to which residents are a harried lot. Flooding in low-lying areas and near Ganda Nullah causes major problems for the people residing near the areas as dirty water enters their houses.

Residents have been demanding installation of reflectors on city roads since long, so that driving during foggy weather becomes a bit easy.

There is also a major issue along Sidhwan canal in South City where streetlights are mostly lying dysfunctional.

ACP (traffic) Richa Agnihotri said, “We have started implementing the high court’s advisory to ensure safety of commuters while travelling by installing reflectors and LED lights on roads, providing reflecting jackets to traffic cops.”

“The work will be completed soon. Commuters should also take precautionary measures while travelling,” Agnihotri said.
