Police have booked a 31-year-old resident of Nanakpura on the charges of raping a five-year-old daughter of her neighbour. The incident reportedly took place on Tuesday evening when the child was alone at home and the accused, identified as Binni Kumar, reportedly lured into his room on the promise of showing her cartoons. The victim has been admitted to the civil hospital, where her condition is said to be critical.

The division number 4 police produced the accused before a court on Wednesday. The accused has been remanded to Ludhiana Central Jail on judicial remand.

The victim's mother lodged the complaint on Tuesday, when she could not find her daughter. She heard screams and caught the accused red-handed in the act.

"My daughter was bleeding and crying profusely. I raised an alarm and with the help of neighbours managed to nab the accused," her complaint to the police states.

Division number 4 SHO inspector Gurpreet Singh said the medical examination of the victim had confirmed rape and the accused had been booked under Sections 376 (rape) and Sections 4 and 8 of Protection of Children and Women from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.

This is the second such crime over the past week. On February 4, a man had been booked on the charges of raping a four-year-old neighbor in the Basti Jodhewal Area.
