Ludhiana: No end to crime, 2 more rapes reported in city

Crime against women has been rapidly increasing in the city. Two more rape cases were reported in the city on Monday.

In first case, two persons gangraped a 16-year-old, while in another case, landlord was booked for raping his tenant.

A 16-year-old girl, who is a resident of Kuldeep Nagar, alleged that she was alone at house on Monday, and the accused, who was her neighbor, along with one of his accomplices, intruded into her house. They gangraped her, and threatened to keep mum.

Inspector Harpal Singh, station house officer (SHO), Basti Jodhewal police station, said, “The victim narrated the whole story to her parents when they came back from work. Following which, her family had lodged a complaint at Basti Jodhewal police station.”

“The accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh (victim's neighbour) and Tarun. Investigation officer assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Karamjeet Singh of Basti Jodhewal police station, said, “A case has been registered against the accused under sections 452 (house-tresspass after preparation for assault), 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC),” the SHO said.

The SHO said, “The police have launched a manhunt for the arrest of accused.”

In second case, a 23-year-old, complainant, alleged that she used to live in the house of accused Monu Sharma, 28, of New Company Bagh area. The accused, who is an astrologer, raped her on the pretext of marriage.

In a complaint lodged at Tibba Road police post, the victim alleged that she, along with her family, lived in Monu's house, and the accused established physical relations with her by promising to solemnise marriage with her. Later, he refused to marry; following which she lodged a complaint with police.

Investigation officer in the case, Harbhajan Singh, in charge, Tibba Road police post, said a case has been registered against the accused under section 376 of the IPC and arrested him.
