Students of the Punjab Agriculture University (PAU) complain that the institute's canteen is disorganised and unhygienic. They accuse the university authorities of ignoring their repeated requests to upgrade canteen facilities.

A student of the University requesting anonymity said, “As soon as we buy anything from the canteen, dogs start following us. They are always around the canteen because of which we cannot eat properly. We only get a few minutes to eat lunch and half of it is spent struggling to shoo the flies and dogs away.”

“There is no facility to dispose waste. On our way to the hostel, there are no dustbins either”, added the student.

“The tables are almost never cleaned. We are forced to sit on these dirty tables to have food. The place is covered with flies but no one is bothered about it” says another student. The waiting period between placing and having their orders is also pretty long, they said.

Students also complained about not having enough chairs and tables.

“A few students broke the benches here, even after complaining about it no step was taken to replace them. Now there are no benches in the canteen near Zoological Department at PAU” a student said.

The students said that they had taken the issues with the university authorities but they have not been resolved yet.

“The issue hasn't been reported yet. I will personally visit the canteen and look into the matter. The plans will be made accordingly.” says Vishavjeet Hans, the Estate Officer.
