Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit, the police have beefed up the security. More than 3,000 security personnel have been deployed in the city, most of them at Punjab Agriculture University (PAU), the venue of the event.

The police have nearly sealed the PAU and no one is allowed to enter.

The movement of residents of the university has also been restricted as they are only allowed to move from gate number 4, that too with a valid identity proof.

A team led by additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) Balkar Singh conducted a special checking at interstate bus terminal (ISBT), railway station and other public places. Singh said the police checked the buses and even the luggage of suspicious people, though nothing objectionable was found, he added.
