The much-awaited indoor sports stadium on Pakhowal Road is likely to be ready by September end.
Civic body officials claimed that the second phase of work is moving at a fast pace and by the end of next month, it will be ready for the sports activities.
The construction of the stadium started in 2004 but it missed several deadlines.
The stadium will not just have a provision for indoor sports activities, it will also have a club house, library, separate dressing rooms for players, practice grounds for teams, 74 shops, lifts and double basement with a capacity of parking 250300 cars.
The MCL would auction all 74 shops in the stadium so that there is commercial activity inside the stadium, said MC commissioner Ghanshyam Thori.
It is centrally air-conditioned. The total cost of the second phase is `40.65 crore while in the first phase, only civil work was done at the cost of Rs 25 crore, he said. Thori said the Pakhowal Road indoor stadium will cater to more than 20 indoor sports activities and over 4,000 people would be able to sit in the stadium. In the MCL general house meeting, mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria and MCL commissioner GK Singh had announced that they would incorporate a club house for councillors inside the stadium. Earlier this club was to take place in the third phase but now it has been given space in the second phase only.
