Ludhiana student killed, 46 hurt as bus overturns

A college girl died on the spot and 46 others sustained injuries when a private bus carrying them overturned near Kasauli here on Thursday evening.

The deceased was identified as Harpinder Kaur (17), a student of BA-1 of Mai Bhago Woman College, Ramgarh, near Ludhiana in Punjab. The injured girls, who were immediately rushed to Primary Health Centre at Dharmapur, were later discharged by after treatment.

Investigations made by the police revealed that the college girls had come on a picnic trip to Kasauli area in three buses on Thursday.

The mishap took place when the students were returning to their destination in the evening. The bus belonging to Nankana Transport Company overturned when the driver owing to break failure hit the bus against the hillock, leaving a student dead on the spot.

Later, the district administration arranged a bus of the Himachal Road Transport Corporation to send the girl students to Chandigarh. A case has been registered under Sections 279, 337 and 304-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against bus driver Sonu.
