Sharing texts, pictures and videos on mobile messaging application Whatsapp without thinking about consequences could cause embarrassment and lead to trouble. In such an incident, group admins of two separate groups on Whatsapp have been booked by the police for sharing picture of a woman and making indecent comments on it.

A case under Section 67 (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of I-T Act has been registered in this context. The case has been registered following the statement of Vikas, a resident of Gurnam Nagar.

In his complaint, complainant Vikas said his sister got married on May 6. He had clicked his picture with his sister on the wedding day and had made it as a profile picture on his Whatsapp account. The accused had copied his picture, shared it in different groups and made indecent comments on it.

According to SHO at the Salem Tabri police station inspector Maninder Bedi, the complainant had alleged that Rohit Mani and Shenky, who are group admins, and two other people Sahil and Rinku had shared the picture with their contacts and instigated others to share the pictures in other groups with the promise that once shared the people in picture would appear naked.

Bedi said, this has brought embarrassment to the newlywed and her family members. He further added that the hunt was on to nab the accused.
