A day after a shootout between two factions of the Youth Akali Dal (YAD), YAD leader Baljinder Singh alias Jindu allegedly fired at the president of a gurdwara here on Friday following a spat over the inauguration of a library.
The injured, identified as Jatinder Singh Galhotra, was rushed to Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH). His condition is said to be critical. president was shot in the stomach. The accused managed to flee after the incident. The division number 5 police registered a case against him and launched a manhunt.
Galhotra is the president of the managing committee of Gurdwara Singh Sabha, Model Gram. Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP), crime, Satbir Singh Atwal said a library was inaugurated on the gurdwara premises on Friday evening. Jindu and Galhotra entered into a verbal duel over the matter.
Around 10 pm, they had another spat, following which Jindu allegedly fired at him from his licensed .32-bore weapon and fled.
This is the third such incident this month involving YAD leaders.
On February 2, YAD district (rural) president Yadwinder Singh Yadu and his accomplices allegedly gunned down a youth at Khanna. Accused is still at large.
On February 27, two factions of the YAD opened fire at each other in Sarabha Nagar here, injuring six. Police have booked Palwinder Singh of Birmi village, Pardeep Singh of Malakpur, Manpreet Singh of Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, Kulwinder Singh alias Kinda of Sunet, Jivan Singh Gurbir Singh of Basemi village and their 15 to 20 unidentified accomplices on complaint of Sandeep Singh of Malakpur Bet village.
