The Salem Tabri police, along with the static surveillance team, recovered 1,084 cartons of illicit liquor from a truck abandoned near Jalandhar Bypass on Tuesday.

The police, who impounded the truck and initiated investigation, suspect that the liquor was meant to be distributed among voters.

Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) north Kulwant Singh Randhawa said they got information that a truck was left abandoned near Green Land Public School near Jalandhar Bypass.

A police team reached at the spot after alerting officials of the static surveillance team comprising Jasguru and Paramjit Singh.

When the truck was searched, the police found 1,084 cartons of illicit liquor loaded on it.

The ACP said that it could not be ruled out that the liquor was brought to be distributed among voters, adding that efforts were on to trace the truck owner.
