15 booked for assaulting shopkeeper, relatives

Fifteen persons have been booked by the Division Number 4 police station in connection with assaulting a Jyoti Nagar area resident and his relatives on Tuesday evening.Complainant Jagjeet Singh alleged that 15 persons attacked and thrashed him, his brother and his relative at his shop, which is in the same locality.


Jagjeet further alleged that the main accused - identified as Pawan Sood - and his 14 accomplices had possessed pistol, swords and other sharp-edged weapons.

He alleged that one of the accused attack one of his relatives Harvinder Singh with sword injuring one of his arms. He claimed that Harvinder suffered serious injuries in the attack.

When he raised alarm, residents of the area gathered around his shop, following which the accused fled from the scene, he said, alleging that they also damaged his shop.Police said old rivalry could be the reason behind the attack.

Besides, Pawan Sood, his younger brothers Monty, Kaku and their unidentified accomplices were booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Western disturbances delay wheat arrival in 'mandis'

The increased frequency of western disturbances in the state has delayed the arrival of wheat at 'mandis' this season. The harvesting has been delayed by nearly 15 days and as a result only 8,000 metric tonnes of wheat has been procured from 'mandis' of Ludhiana district by the district food and supplies office till now as compared to 8,700 MT wheat during the corresponding period the last season.
