2013: A year full of crime for Ludhiana

 The year 2013 brought changes and controversy for the Ludhiana police. Acid attack on bride, rape of minors, murders, rising crime against elderly people, loot and snatchings were prominent, while the police have succeeded to bust some of the gangs of vehicle lifters and drug peddlers, some of the cases have been lying pending with the police.

Three police commissioners have been changed in Ludhiana. IPS officer Ishwar Singh, police commissioner, was replaced by Paramjit Singh Gill in June. Gill served Ludhiana as police commissioner for five months and was finally replaced by Nirmal Singh Dhillon in November.

With the arrest of Punjabi Singer Nachattar Gill, for raping and making lewd MMS of an aspiring model, the Ludhiana police was in news in the end of the year. Acid Attack on a bride was also one of the most heinous crimes in the city that perplexed the police.

Narayan Sai, son of self styled Godman Asa Ram was traced in Ludhiana, but the Ludhiana police was unaware of it.

Lows of Ludhiana police

The case regarding murder of two minor girls have been lying pending with the police. The police have been struggling to find clues of the killers.

Atrocity over a woman in Daba area was highlighted in April when the police had not registered case until 12 days of filing the complaint. The matter grabed the attention of National commission of Women also. Later, police officials and SHO were suspended.

The police gathered controversy when cops at police station PAU had detained a 9-year-old boy and thrashed him badly in the police station. Later, two cops were booked and arrested in the case in August.

ACP Baldev Singh was arrested along with his aide for accepting bribe by Vigilance Bureau of Ludhiana.
Case of Abhinav Sachdeva who was found dead on September 15, under mysterious circumstances at a vacant plot in Pakhowal road on Saturday has been lying pending. Reports with the police in May indicated that he was electrocuted after being sodomised. The police did not register any case in this context.

Police claimed to have solved the kidnapping of Manish Barara, son of city industrialist in July. The police had arrested a woman and her accomplices for kidnapping Manish and demanding Rs. 5- crore in ransom.

Police busted two gangs of Human trafficking in July and November that used to abduct children and sell them childless among  couples.

On September 27 the police busted a gang of vehicle lifters and recovered more than 21 stolen cars from their possession.

The Ludhiana police also busted the drug peddling gang. The police recovered psychotropic drugs worth Rs. 7 crore from a godown at Transport Nagar and also caught a factory in Himachal Pradesh where the drug lord used to manufacture drugs.
