The tehbazari wing of the municipal corporation removed over 20 illegal encroachments in Transport Nagar here on Wednesday.

Around 15 illegal encroachments raised by dhabas and small eateries were removed with JCB machine. Abdul Sattar, superintendent of MC’s Zone B, said: “A total of 22 illegal encroachments were removed during the anti-encroachment drive.”

He said some people had encroached upon the area of government land to extend space of their eateries. Such drives would be conducted again in the other areas in the coming days, Sattar said. Earlier, the civic body had conducted a similar drive in the same area in June when people had accused the MC officials to follow pick and choose policy.

However, officials failed to remove the encroachment raised in front of a liquor shop at Transport Nagar once again. According to sources, the staff of liquor vend had allegedly pressurised the staff not to raze the structure they had raised.
