3 girls, including 2 minors, raped in city

Three incidents of rape were reported in the city on Saturday, with the victims in two of them being minors.


In the first incident the father of an underage girl lodged a complaint at the Dugri police station alleging his daughter was taken by a friend of hers to a house in Kar nail Singh Nagar on March 17, where he gave her a cold drink laced with sedatives. He claimed another suspect “solemnised marriage” with her without her consent, following which Sonu had sexual intercourse with her against her will.

The girl’s father stated the victim somehow managed to escape from the clutches of the four men and then made her way to meet the area sarpanch, narrating the incident to him. The latter then infor med her family members who took her to the police.

The police filed case of rape against the four men, identified as Saloni, Appu, Sameer and Sonu, under sections 376, 417, 506 & 120B of the IPC. Dugri police station SHO inspector Paramjit Singh said a manhunt had been launched for nabiing the suspects.

In the second incident the Daba police filed a case against a youth, identified as Deepak Kumar of Maan Naga, for raping a minor girl in the Maan Nagar area in Daba. In her complaint to the police, the victim’s mother said she had gone out on some errand at 11 am on Friday, leaving her 14-year old daughter alone at home. She said the accused then barged into her home and raped her daughter, who she found crying when she retur ned at around 1 pm. She said on being asked she narrated the incident to her.

In the third incident, a 23-year-old woman residing in New Sunder Nagar was allegedly raped and later beaten by the suspect, later identified as Hardeep Singh of Satguru Nagar. In her complaint the victim told the police she was employed as a computer keyboard operator in a private firm and the suspect used to stalk her, threatening to kill her if she did not agree to marry him.

She stated fearing for her life she had accepted his proposal. The victim further stated the suspect lured her to his room about four months ago and raped her, warning her to keep silent about the assault.

The police has filed a case under sections 376, 341, 323 & 506 of the IPC against the suspect and have launched a manhunt to nab him.
