A day after the body of 14-year-old Lovepreet Singh was fished out from Sutlej river, the Meharban police have booked four persons for killing him and throwing the body in the canal. The case was registered following a complaint by the victim's mother, a resident of Gurbans Nagar.

In his complaint, Simran Kaur alleged that Yuvraj Yadav, Ravi Yadav and their two unidentified accomplices had killed her son due to old enmity. She alleged that the four boys had indulged in a brawl with her son last week and inquiry of the matter was pending with the police.

Kaur further alleged that the four boys called Lovepreet on Friday and took him to Sutlej river, where they killed him and threw his body in the canal.

Inspector Inderjit Singh, station house officer (SHO) at Meharban police station, said the police were investigating the matter, adding that the matter would be cleared after receiving the post-mortem examination report of the victim.

Police had earlier claimed that the boy had jumped into the river to take a dip and was swept away in the water flow. His friend, Kartik, who had also jumped in the water, was saved by onlookers.
