The driver of a speeding Coca Cola truck was killed after he allegedly rammed the vehicle into another truck parked on the roadside, crushing three men, at Dhandhari on Tuesday morning. The deceased truck driver has been identified as Darshan Singh, 35, of Jagraon. The other victims are Sewa Ram, 36, Brijesh Yadav, 38, and Amit of Uttar Pradesh.
According to reports, a container broke down in Focal Point area near Dhandari on Monday morning, following which its driver stopped another truck to seek help.
Occupants of the other truck — Amit, Brijesh and Sewa Ram — were helping fix the snag, when a speeding Coca Cola truck hit the parked truck, killing the three men on the spot.
The erring truck driver, Darshan, was rushed to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The police reached the spot and initiated investigation.
Dhandari police post incharge sub-inpector Gurbakshish Singh said the bodies were sent to civil hospital for post-mortem examination.
A case under sections 279 (reckless driving) and 304-A (causing death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against Darshan.
Meanwhile, the truck that was stopped to help the container was loaded with beef. After the incident, some activists of Hindu organisations reached the spot and staged a protest. Police pacified them by stating that they would investigate the matter.
