Two persons were arrested on Saturday for carrying 54 kg poppy husk. The accused have been identified as Sunil Kumar alias Sonu and Mohammad Ashiq alias Mintu, both residents of EWS Colony on Tajpur road.
ACP (crime) GS Bains said, acting on a tip-off, the CIA staff had put up a check point near Amrit Dharam Kanda on Tajpur road. The accused were carrying the contraband on a motorcycle and when signaled to stop, they tried to flee. But due to waterlogging in the area, the two-wheeler skidded off and they fell on the ground.
ACP Bains said that Sunil had been smuggling poppy husk through train from Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh by posing as an army jawan. The accused told the police that he had travelled to Gwalior 150 times in the last four years to buy drugs from there. The accused said that he was on way to supply poppy husk among addicts when arrested on Saturday.
"Sunil has a criminal record. He had served four years in jail in Haryana," said the ACP.
