A local court has sent the assistant sub-inspector (ASI), Narinder Singh, incharge of the Raghunath Enclave police post, to the central jail in judicial remand in connection with illegal detention of 9-year-old boy, Rohit, of New Ashapuri.

The AS, and head constable Harnek Singh were arrested under Section 294 (for annoying others) and 342 (illegal detention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 10 of the Protection of Child from Sexual Offences on Tuesday.

Sukesh Kalia, member of the Punjab Commission for Protection of Child Rights, who first noticed the incident, took up the matter with police, urging them to investigate into the case and to take appropriate action against the guilty.

Kalia said the commission had been taking the matter of atrocity on children seriously.

A few months back, the commissions had rescued and rehabilitate a 9-year-old girl, who was allegedly battered by a lady and her daughter and brandished with hot iron rods.
