Police claimed that the miscreants who had groped and thrashed her were none other than her husband and father-in-law.

The accused had allegedly assaulted her with sticks with an intention to kill her because they did not like her and wanted to get rid of her.

The police claimed to have solved the matter with the arrest of her husband Surjeet Kumar and father-in-law Pradeep Das, both are on two days police remand.

The police have also nominated mother-in-law of the victim in the FIR as they also suspect her involvement in the crime.

Inspector Gurnam Singh, SHO railway police station of Ludhiana, claimed that the accused admitted to their crime during questioning. The woman was found lying injured on a railway track near Hargobind Nagar on December 20. The police rushed her to a hospital. On December 21, the railway police registered a case of molestation and assault against three unidentified accused on the woman's statement.

In her complaint, the woman had said she was returning home along with her husband Surjeet after paying obeisance at a shrine, when the miscreants groped her and assaulted her.

The SHO said Surjeet, a native of Bihar, and Shivani married against the wish of their parents two years ago and have come to Ludhiana.

Surjeet's parents joined them in Ludhiana around three months ago and they allegedly instigated their son to desert Shivani or get rid of her.

Following a plan, Surjeet took Shivani to a temple on December 20. When the couple was returning, Pradeep Das and Surjeet attacked her with sticks and fled. As it was dark Shivani could not recognise them and stated that she was attacked by some unidentified persons.

The SHO said Surjeet was under their suspicion from the day of the incident as he was frequently changing his statements. Eventually, the accused revealed the truth when the police posed harsh against him.

The police had also recovered the sticks used in the crime from near the spot following information given by the accused.
