In a major goof-up, the call given by the state Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa to lead a delegation of Punjab farmers to meet UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi ended with a mere protest against Gujarat CM and BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

As per few senior Punjab Congress leaders, who were there in New Delhi, Bajwa's" hidden move to raise protest against Modi caused a major embarrassment before their cadres as from each assembly segment, the leaders have brought two buses each of farmers and Congress leaders on the pretext that farmers issues would be taken up with the AICC chief.

As per information, the contingent of buses reached Majnu Tilla and it was there the Bajwa's team told the cadres from the state that the actual purpose was to stage a massive protest demonstration outside Gujarat Bhawann where Modi had arrived before addressing BJP rally in New Delhi.

When contacted, PPCC spokesman Sukhpal Khaira, he said, "The cadres were deliberately not told about the real purpose of the Delhi programme, so that the administration could not get the idea about the protest against Modi." He added that the purpose was to oppose the eviction of Punjabi farmers from Gujarat, while claiming, "We have succeeded in what we had planned."

Khaira said that the purpose was to oppose Modi outside BJP's rally also but because of heavy rain and police interference, the demonstration was called off. Party camp opposite to Bajwa termed this hidden move by PPCC chief as a mere stunt to prove his upmanship in the party. However, reactions from different factions in the Congress are expected to come by evening.
