Cash for seats: CMC employee arrested

The Muzaffarnagar police on Friday arrested additional accounts officer of Christian Medical College (CMC) here for receiving cash for seats.


Employee Valentine was arrested in a police raid on the CMC's residential quarters at night. Muzaffarnagar police sub- inspector Narinder Singh led the crackdown. The squad also discussed the matter with principal SM Bhatti. "Bhatti seems not involved but we are still investigating," said the SI.

One of the accused, Anup, was arrested in December last year. Hunt is on for more. Complainant Prabhat Panwar accompanied the raiding squad. Principal Bhatti refuted Panwar's allegations as a deliberate act to tarnish the institution's image.

Western disturbances delay wheat arrival in 'mandis'

The increased frequency of western disturbances in the state has delayed the arrival of wheat at 'mandis' this season. The harvesting has been delayed by nearly 15 days and as a result only 8,000 metric tonnes of wheat has been procured from 'mandis' of Ludhiana district by the district food and supplies office till now as compared to 8,700 MT wheat during the corresponding period the last season.
