Inspector (traffic) Vinod Kumar, along with police force, intercepted the vehicle near Tagore Nagar chowk on Saturday.

The police have set up checkpoints at various points in the city for checking vehicles and averting any untoward incident on Republic Day. Kumar said when they stopped the SUV; occupant introduced himself as Dr Manpreet Singh of Amritsar.

Kumar said, "He failed to produce any permission for installing blue beacon and window film. He pleaded before the police to not to issue challan."

It is pertinent that the Ludhiana traffic wing has initiated a special drive against tinted glasses and unauthorised use of beacons. A total of 12 challans were issued for tinted windows on the vehicles in city on Thursday.
