City-based industrialist takes initiative to upgrade level of sports

To ensure maximum participation of students in sports, a city-based journalist and two clubs are making efforts to provide sports equipment to Shaheed Nirmaljeet Singh Sekhon Memorial Government Senior Secondary School, Isewal.

In a noble initiative, a city-based industrialist Gurdial Singh Sekhon is donating sports equipment to Isewal school. The sports equipment worth Rs. 62,000 include basketball polls, handball movable polls and volleyball polls.

Sekhon said, “As I belong to this village, so I have a lot of attachment and I want that every student of the school should participate at state and national-level sports. When my daughter used to study at primary school, Isewal there was no focus was on sports and equipment. So, I decided to donate sports equipment to the school so that more and more students can participate in the games.”    

While, Dashmesh Sports Club will provide handball sports kit to 16 students and Youth Services Club will provide football kits to boys.

Anoop Kumar Passi, principal of the school, said, “Participation in sports provides a practical way to learn about goal settings to a child. To encourage sports in our school, a city-based industrialist and two clubs are donating kits and sports equipment to the school.”

We will receive the sports kits in next few days and the sports equipment by the end of this month. We are thankful to Sekhon as well as the clubs for such a noble initiative.”

Importance of sports
Sports helps children learn about teamwork. In sports children learn how to deal with adversity and errors, chances are, they become able to translate those skills to real life and effectively minimise mistakes as well as competently recover from setbacks. Sports provide numerous opportunities for positive experiences to a child as an individual, and for family as a whole.
