In a startling revelation, Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, has provided admission to a student in BBA second year on the basis of a "fake degree".

The student, who was a student of BBA first year in the same college, was declared fail by the Panjab University (PU) in the result declared on August 6, 2012. But, surprisingly she was still provided admission to second year based on a marksheet of Punjabi University, Patiala.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Prithipal Singh Grewal, secretary, Guru Nanak Education Trust, Ludhiana, said, "Despite being aware that the student failed in BBA first year, the college provided admission to the student in second year. This is violation of PU calendar, and I have filed a written complaint to the police commissioner, PU vice-chancellor, and PU dean colleges. Further, I am going to meet the vice-chancellor, Arun Kumar Grover, on Thursday to request probe and necessary action against the college principal."

Grewal alleged that the student was provided admission in BBA second year by the college on July 12, 2012, a month before declaration of the first-year result.

"Moreover, not only was the student provided admission beyond the normal protocol, she was promoted to second year on the basis of BBA first-year marksheet from Punjabi University, Patiala, of the same year," he alleged.

It remains unanswered, how the same student could have appeared for the same examination from both Punjabi University and PU in the same year.

"Further, PU has issued second registration card to the student for BBA second year without proper verification, as she was already registered with the university in the first year," Grewal said.

HT has in its possession various documents, which depict that something is amiss. These include the GNGC admission form for BBA first year, migration form of the student submitted in GNGC on July 12, 2012; student's registration card of PU dated December 5, 2012; BBA first-year marksheet from Punjabi University and the BBA first-year marksheet from PU.

PU dean colleges Naval Kishore said, "The matter is not in my knowledge. I will take appropriate action when I receive a complaint."

When contacted, Charanjit Kaur Mahal, principal of GNGC, refuted all allegations, and said the college was following all rules and regulations set by PU for admission process.

However, two marksheets from two different universities for the same year have a different tale to tell.
