A day after former district president of Congress youth wing Dimple Rana and other leaders joined Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), several Congress leaders on Friday blamed District Congress Urban president Pawan Dewan for their move.

While addressing a press conference, Punjab Pradesh Congress secretaries Satish Sharma Showman and Kartar Singh Patna, SC ST Commission Punjab coordinator Surinder Kalyan and Women Congress president (rural) Neelam Kohli alleged that the leaders who left the party were ignored by the district president.

Showman, who is also member of Film Censor Board, said in the past two years reign of Dewan, many leaders, including Ramesh Joshi, Mahinder Singh Lalka and Ashok Makkar, left the Congress and joined SAD.

He said during the tenure of former district presidents of Congress, including Surinder Dawar, Rakesh Pandey, KK Bawa and Jagmohan Sharma, the party never suffered such losses.

He also added that due to attitude of Dewan, hundreds of dedicated Congress workers had been disappointed and instead of working actively for the party they were preferring to stay out of party activities.

The leaders said they would raise the issue before Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Partap Singh Bajwa, union minister Manish Tewari and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.

On the other hand, refuting the allegations, Dewan said Dimple Rana was miffed because his demand of party ticket to contest state assembly election was declined.

He said party still had dedicated workers who had been working for party with dedication. Commenting on the press conference organised by the party leaders, Dewan said it was indiscipline and he would take up the matter with state Congress cheif Partap Singh Bajwa.
