The son-in-law of popular folk singer and Congress legislator Mohammad Sadique was arrested on Monday evening here for possessing a fake identity card of Mumbai Police.
The ID suggested he was undercover agent of the crime investigation department (CID) in Andheri East, Mumbai. The police at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) here registered a case against him of preparing, keeping, and flashing the fake police ID.
Mohammad Yasin (32), son-in-law of the legislator from Bhadaur, was arrested at a checkpoint near the Sidhwan canal. “He saw the police trap and tried to flee,” said sub-inspector Gurveer Singh, station house officer at the PAU. “The police caught him in a chase. He put up a dominating face and said he was undercover police officer of Mumbai. On verifying, the police found the identity card fake.”
Yasin lives in a rented accommodation at Adarsh Colony on the Barewal road here, opposite the house of Mohammad Sadique. After falling out with wife, he has been living in Khanna for the past 15 days.
The SHO said the investigation was on.
