A day after a couple having an extra-marital relationship allegedly consumed poison, the 28-year-old woman succumbed at Guru Teg Bahadur Charitable Hospital, Shastri Nagar, on Sunday.

Kavita's paramour, Ashok Kumar, 26, a security guard, had died a few hours after consuming poison on Saturday.

The police handed over the bodies to the kin after autopsy. Kavita had an extra-marital affair with Ashok, a resident of Ambedkar Nagar, for the past one year. Their families, who were aware about their relation, had been deterring them from meeting.

Gurdev Singh, station house officer (SHO), Model Town police station, claimed that society would not accept their relationship, the couple decided to end their lives. They met near Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) office at Model Town Extension on Saturday evening and consumed poison.

After consuming poison, Kumar called his brother, Gaurav, and narrated the matter to him. Gaurav, with the help of others, rushed the couple to the hospital, where Ashok died after sometime, while Kavita succumbed on Sunday.
